Meth
I was recently in Montana for my Grandpa Joe’s 90th birthday party. As I was in the backseat of my cousin’s car, driving to a nearby park, I was snapped out of my Big Sky daydream when I saw a Meth ad…and then another one….and then another. While in Helena, MT, I probably saw 10 Meth ads over the course of a weekend. Starting September 2005, the Montana Meth Project launched a massive campaign using TV, radio, billboards, newspapers, and the internet to combat the devastating fact that it was ranked 5th in the nation for Meth abuse. Since then, their studies have found that Montana now ranks 39th in the nation for Meth abuse, teen Meth use has declined by 63%, adult Meth use has declined by 72%, and Meth-related crime has decreased by 62%. Their message is brutally honest and hard to stomach. Check out their ads here and pass this message on to teens. In 2008, 850,000 Americans age 12 and older had abused methamphetamine at least once in the year prior to being surveyed.
