party from hell

Whoa.  Check out this letter detailing how Miami University Greeks tore apart Lyndsay Lodge during a “formal” event.  And we wonder why fraternities and sororities get a bad rap?

If this toddler / zoo animal type of behavior sounds familiar to you Greek leaders out there, consider taking the advice of your parents and lay down some rules.  Before an event, discuss expectations and consequences such as fines and social probation.  Remember this saying our parents always used: “Give ‘em an inch and they’ll take a mile”?  Don’t let it get to that point.  Stand up for what your organization represents and don’t accept the BS.

LOVE these Bud Light spots

by

Just came across these wickedly funny Bud Light commercials.  You bet your bottom dollar they would never be allowed to air on TV….what a bummer.  Usually the ones you see during Superbowl are so watered down.  To see more creative and hilarious stuff, go to LA production company Tool’s website.

a history of violence and alcohol abuse

Yeardley Love’s murder is absolutely devastating.  I can only image what her family is going through right now.  My heart goes out to them and I pray for their recovery, although they will never be whole again.

George Huguely, Yeardley’s boyfriend and accused killer, has an almost sociopathic history of drunken violent run-ins with the law, and it was known among friends that the couple had a volatile relationship.

If this isn’t a wake up call, I don’t know what is.  If you know someone in an abusive relationship, please don’t be a bystander.  Find a counselor at your college or high school and report the behavior.  Ask to remain anonymous if you want.  Yeardley’s death is proof of how grave the consequences can be if you remain silent.  “The most silent victims of domestic violence are teenagers and young adults,” says Claire Kaplan, University of Virginia’s Director of Sexual and Domestic Violence Services.

A quote about George Huguely really stood out to me.  “That wasn’t George that night,” his neighbor, Peter Preston, told ABC News. “That was somebody that had taken over.”

How many of you know someone who turns violent when they drink?  Maybe this person flips a switch after a certain number of cocktails and goes from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde and you’re sitting there thinking, “What the heck happened?”  This is a serious problem drinking sign and should not be taken lightly.  Again, please don’t be a bystander.  Say something.  Find a sober moment to talk to your friend about specific things you witnessed.  There’s a good chance your friend doesn’t even realize or remember what he or she did.  If the private talk does nothing to curb behavior, find a counselor and get professional help asap.  If someone was hurt, seek help immediately.

Moral of the story:  Let Yeardley’s death be a lesson to us all about just how precious life is.  Do your part to look out for those you love.
